Who controls the brake?

Code-generated illustration, not incident footage.

An illustrated route connects model, harness, external controls, evidence and a human-operated brake. It summarizes ideas from Nadella’s essay. The closing per-action control lesson is Ackuity’s interpretation, not a Microsoft endorsement.

Satya Nadella proposes treating capable AI models as insider risks, with independent controls, reliable evidence and a human-operated emergency brake. This animation illustrates his October 10 essay; it is commentary, not an incident.

THE CONTROL LESSON

What should we watch for?

Ackuity’s view: use proportionate decisions before actions run, with Allow, Constrain, Human in the loop, Block and Terminate. Reserve termination for catastrophic cases. This per-action interpretation is Ackuity’s, not a claim made about Ackuity in Nadella’s essay.

THE EVIDENCE

What does the report establish?

An illustration of industry commentary, not a reported incident or a product announcement. The essay does not endorse or refer to Ackuity. The animation’s closing lesson about judging each action is Ackuity’s interpretation.

In his October 10 essay, Nadella argues that model capability should be separated from authority. He proposes controls outside the model, independently auditable records and a way for authorized people to interrupt a running task. His recommendations also include model diversity, continuous testing and incident disclosure.

An agent can make mistakes even when it is trying to help. Independent controls let an organization limit access and investigate actions without relying only on the model’s own account.
